UPDATED 5/23

Last Sunday, the Music City-Keep on Playin’ benefit concert on GAC took place and it was an unquestioned success raising well over a $1.4 Million for the Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee. The viral momentum of this campaign continues this week with another Televised special benefiting the flood victims in Tennessee. This time the Academy of Country Music and CBS television will air a 2-hour Brooks & Dunn Special. During the broadcast viewers will be directed to CBS.com/Give where they will be presented with a KIMBIA-powered form to accept their donation.

Fundraising events like these are uniquely successful because they are able to promote and accept donations directly their own Websites. Perhaps even more impressive is that continued success of the viral fundraising application, as organizations all around nashville participated by grabbing the form and promoting their own sites for fundraising. Of course, every dollar of funds transacted through these forms goes directly to the Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee, allowing them to see a realtime snapshot of which sites are participating in raising the much needed dollars.

Below are some more screenshots of other sites who have generously participated in this unique fundraising event.

Original Posting

In any natural disaster, a “rapid-response” online fundraising strategy is crucial. Powered by the combined efforts of KIMBIA and GuideStar’s DonorEdge platform, the Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee (CFMT) was able to be the first major fundraising organization to respond with a custom online fundraising campaign.

Recently, KIMBIA and GuideStar began a partnership to enhance the fundraising potential of the GuideStar DonorEdge platform with KIMBIA powered fundraising forms. DonorEdge provides large fundraising organizations like The Community Foundation with an online platform to easily match donors with organizations in their community who need their help. Over the past week, the CFMT was able to raise hundreds of thousands of dollars by leveraging their existing relationships with media outlets and using agile fundraising tools. Here’s a rundown of the good work they are doing…

 1) Created New Profiles for Flood Relief Funds

Using their Donor Edge Platform at GivingMatters.com, the CFMT was able to create new organization profiles for the two funds created to aid in relief efforts. Within a day, each of these two funds had a unique “donate now” landing page on GivingMatters.com with a KIMBIA powered donation form. Check them out now Metro Nashville Disaster Response Fund and The Tennessee Emergence Response Fund

 2) Launched Giving Widgets on CFMT.org

Initially, The CFMT sent all donors directly to the two links above at GivingMatters.com, which was very effective, but still added an extra step and a change in URL before a donor could make their transaction. With the help of KIMBIA and GuideStar, the CFMT was immediately able to create a custom sized and styled widget that was able embeddable directly on the CFMT Website. Now, donors could come directly to CFMT.org, pick the flood relief fund they wish, give to a styled form directly on-site, and then have the option to grab the entire form and embed it on their own sites.

 3) Leveraged Relationships to Push Widgets and Spread the Word Virally

Once the Widgets were built and deployed on CFMT.org, the next step was to get the community involved directly by hosting the forms directly and/or sharing a link back to forms. The CFMT contacted local media outlets and let them know that they could grab the full donation form widget and place it directly on their own flood relief pages. This is beneficial for two reasons. 1) The media outlets below were able to promote their own sites and allow visitors to give a complete donation without every clicking away. 2) Having donation forms on many sites distributes the load of donations to many sites across the Internet meaning that the CFMT Website doesn’t have to shoulder all of the load of traffic. Check out the local Webistes below who generously posted the donation form directly onto their own sites.

From there is wasn’t long before the efforts went viral across the Internet…

Former Vice President Al Gore tweeted and blogged about the efforts on The Huffington Post

Groupon offered valuable promotional space on their “Deal of The Day” emails and on their Web site promoting the efforts of the CFMT.

Overall this is an excellent example of how smart strategies, combined with flexible tools can enable fundraising organizations to quickly mobilize people to action and get funds into the hands of the people that need it most.

Facebook has undoubtedly become the primary Social Networking site for this generation of Internet users. Millions of people log on everyday to see the latest updates from friends and family, as well as information from the organizations they support by being a ‘fan’. However, making a donation directly to an organization through Facebook has been a challenge… until now. By taking advantage of KIMBIA’s “anywhere” technology, our customers are able to build custom Facebook applications featuring a KIMBIA donation or registration form that allows Facebook users to complete a transaction directly within a Facebook app or fan page.

The Heritage Foundation Facebook fan page features many options for its fans including links to advocacy tools, special content features and events calendars. Uniquely, however, it also features a “Donate” tab that gave Heritage Foundation fans a one-click access to a fully functioning KIMBIA donation form. Donors are able to complete an entire transaction on their credit card with a trusted organization without ever leaving the Facebook website. This feature is critical in respecting and supporting the users who have integrated Facebook into their daily online lives.

Launched last week, this excellent example of next-gen online fundraising is the result of great strategic thinking combined with a little technical expertise. The Heritage Foundation was able to realize this concept with standard KIMBIA snippet codes combined with custom Facebook development from the David All Group, a modern grassroots communications firm based in Washington DC.

If you or someone in your organization is familiar with building applications in FBML, you too can have your own KIMBIA donation forms placed inside of Facebook. If your organization would be interested in having a custom Facebook application developed with KIMBIA integration, please feel free to contact us at info@kimbia.com. We can put you in touch with one of our services partners like the David All Group, who can help you plan and build a fundraising application that is right for you.

At KIMBIA, we are careful not to take sides on the issues, but we do have opinions about great fundraising applications.

Previously, we’ve blogged about the immediate opportunity presented by partnering with sites that support your cause. Many of our customers have successfully reached new supporters by sharing registration and donation forms on the sites of their corporate sponsors, for example. We think this is an even bigger social/viral fundraising opportunity than Facebook and the social networks. Below is a great example from the world of politics.

Thanks to the great work of our partners at the David All Group, candidate Marco Rubio was able to raise money from a new source – the RedState.com blog.

Redstate has been blogging vigorously in support candidate Rubio. Using KIMBIA’s Anywhere technology, RedState was able to place Rubio’s fundraising forms directly on the blog, in context with blog posts about Rubio. RedState was able to not only sway opinion but also to illicit immediate action.

It is a good deal for both parties. RedState delivered a new value to their audience, the opportunity to really do something about the topic of the day, without sending their audience away to another site. The Rubio campaign was able to reach the community of interest on the RedState site, and acquire new donors and new dollars.

RedState quickly met their initial fundraising goal in just one day and has since set a larger goal for the month of June. See the tracker and the embedded KIMBIA form below.

Great work by all involved and a model application for others to learn from.

Here’s the question for our other customers – who is blogging about you? Those sites might be a great source of new donors, and with KIMBIA, reaching them is just a copy-and-paste away.

See the story in the Washington Times:
http://washingtontimes.com/news/2009/may/28/hot-button-9914900/?page=1
And the Marco Rubio fundraiser on the RedState.com blog
Kimbia client, Planet Cancer, was recognized by the Non-Profit Times as a "2009 Hot Nonprofit Web Site".

Planet Cancer uses KIMBIA forms for all fundraising and registrations needs on the site as well as complementing the community focus as members utilize KIMBIA to drive support through their own social networks.

"A new feature was launched with an application from software solutions company Kimbia, which has developed a flexible, online fundraising and event registration tool that allows the organization to easily customize forms and campaigns in-house for just about anything including selling event tickets, soliciting for its annual fund, recruiting volunteers and processing weekend retreat applications. Members can grab the code and add it as a widget onto their MySpace, FaceBook or My Planet pages, which extends Planet Cancer's reach for fundraising and advocacy campaigns."

Florida-based Motion Sports Management recently partnered with KIMBIA as part of the group's technology overhaul. Read about them in Florida Running & Triathlon.

KIMBIA's president and avid runner, Thon Morse, is quoted: "Race operators increasingly have been demanding technology that gives them more control over participant data and simplifies the online registration process. KIMBIA provides groups like Motion Sports Management with the software tools they need to more effectively manage their events while enabling racers to avoid the clutter and confusion they typically encounter when registering online."
