Dad's Day 5K – Everybody can get involved
On May 20, KIMBIA received an email from the folks who run the Dad's Day 5K in Houston. They asked us if it was possible, with just a month to go before the event, to add individual fundraising to their event. We launched them the very same day, right on their existing website.

"KIMBIA delivered a seamless transition for their on-line services to be added to our web site, www.dadsday5k.org. They responded quickly with reliable services. This added to our great success in 2009 and we look forward to moving ahead with more on-line services for our sponsors, teams and participates in 2010"
— Sherri Ellisor, Dad's Day 5K Web Developer
One month later, the event was run on Father's Day. About 25% of all the funds collected by the event, were gifts given to individual participants. The high proportion of gifts means that more money went to the fight against prostate cancer.
This success is due completely to four groups: volunteers from the prostate cancer survivor group, Tex Us Too who put on this event, the employees of Marathon Oil, the event's primary sponsor, and of course, the individuals who reached out to their networks and raised significant money for the cause.
KIMBIA was built specifically to support this kind of effort. The folks putting on this event had very limited time and resources, but wanted to be able to run a first class fundraising event without having to learn a bunch of new technology or spend a lot of money. Individual participants wanted to be able to quickly create a personal fundraiser and get to work raising funds, without having to go through a multi-step process.
"At first we were leery of introducing new technologies and methods to our efforts, because, as one might expect form a cancer support group of older men who still think 'Tweet' is the sound a bird makes, we weren't much for change. But then our sponsors and early participates started asking for more on-line services than just registration, and we found that KIMBIA could deliver them ... and much more. KIMBIA helped us take our event to the next level."
— Dean Trierwiler, Dad's Day 5K Registration Director.
The reason we call our individual fundraising tools "Everybody" is because that is everybody is exactly who we built this product for. The Dad's Day 5K is a great example of how quickly and successfully Everybody is enabled to support a great cause.
